Things to see
Zakopane offers wonderful scenery along with endless opportunities for recreation, but it also boasts a rich architectural heritage.
Some of the must-sees include:
- A complex of nineteenth-century wooden architecture in Kościeliska Street typical of the Podhale region
- Chapel of the Gąsienica family built in 1800
- Old Cemetery in Pęksowe Brzysko – the first cemetery in Zakopane and the resting place of famous writers, artists and mountaineers.
- The Koliba Villa built in 1893 by Stanisław Witkiewicz, the first example of the Zakopane style.
- The residence of the Pawlikowski family designed by Stanisław Witkiewicz – the Pod Jedlami (Under the Firs) Villa, the most beautiful house in the Zakopane style.
- The Witkiewiczówka Villa – designed in the Zakopane style in 1904.
- Wooden chapel in the Jaszczurówka District designed by Stanisław Witkiewicz and built between the years 1904 – 1908.
- The Sabała's Hut – a wooden building from the early 19th century.
